MENDOTA, WESTERN FRESNO COUNTY — October 22, 2026, evening. A significant flash-flood bulletin issued Thursday afternoon for central Fresno County included Five Points and Cantua Creek, communities relevant to residents traveling through the western San Joaquin Valley. However, a county warning must not be mistaken for proof that every street in Mendota experienced flooding.
What the NWS bulletin reported
At 3:47 p.m., the National Weather Service in Hanford reported thunderstorms producing heavy rain in the central county warning area, with 1 to 3 inches measured or estimated by radar and automated rain gauges. Flooding of creeks, streets, underpasses and low spots was ongoing or expected soon inside the relevant area.
In a new 6:05 p.m. statement, forecasters said the heavy rainfall had ended and flooding was no longer expected to pose an immediate threat from that warning. They said the formal alert would expire at 6:15 p.m. and told travelers to respect any remaining road closures.
What Mendota-area drivers should check
Anyone planning an evening trip on rural roads around Five Points, Cantua Creek or Mendota should confirm conditions for the actual route. NWS flood alerts do not automatically name every blocked intersection, and an expired warning does not mean barricades have been removed. Caltrans QuickMap covers state highways; local county roads require confirmation through the county and law enforcement.
What we are not claiming
This Mendota News article describes a nearby county weather event. The cited NWS statement does not confirm a flooding incident, evacuation or particular road closure within the city of Mendota. Photographs unrelated to the storm should be labeled illustrative, not presented as evidence.
We will keep the geographic distinction between the original warning area and Mendota’s separate local conditions clear in any follow-up.

Reporting note: NWS alerts may expire or change. Rainfall estimates are those provided by the issuing forecasters, not on-the-ground measurements by California58. Never attempt to drive across a flooded roadway. California58 does not claim an unverified local road closure or that an entire town is flooded.
